"Among all the islands and hidden places I had the opportunity to drift away in this beautiful Kingdom. Koh Ta Kiev (island) was for sure one of the most unique places in Cambodia. Many of people exploring the country usually don’t go there, which is just another advantage of it, of course there are visitors , but no crowd or people obsessed with taking selfies and posting on Facebook or doing some similar stuff ( don’t want to use another “s” word).
The beauty of the island also lies in the fact that posting is not even possible on the island, you are miles away from the internet and you just have to adopt yourself to people on it and feel the vibrations of Koh Ta Kiev and energy on it. Still since the island has many “things” to offer, more than certain there are rumors about it among backpackers traveling around Cambodia, even if they didn’t have the chance of getting there."
Only an hour away from mainland, Koh Ta Kiev is one of the closest islands to Sihanoukville and is on the itinerary of many of the day trips and island tours that leave from there. Very few people stay overnight on the island, though, which is a shame because it's beautiful and has a few easily accessible beaches.
Koh Takiev is an huge island with beautiful beaches where you will be totally alone.
The two long, beautiful fine sand beaches, each a kilometre
in length, look like two bows on each side of the rocky headland. Often golden eagles are spotted. These beaches are the pride of the island which also includes a charming additional beach with 360 m of amber sand.
To the south of the centre of the island is a water body shaded by pine trees.
In the 30-40 m peak hills are found hillside forests.
The ‘open sea’ beach to the south-west (800 m) faces the sea to the sunset.
The south-east beach (1 km) is called ‘ivory’ in reference to the colour of its sand. It faces the sunrise with a clear view of the sea.
The eastern beach (360 m) is called ‘amber’. It is close to the jetty and the fishing village, overlooking the sea, the Phu Quoc (Vietnam) islands and Ream national park.
Trekking paths meander through the jungle if you're feeling adventurous and would like to do a bit of wildlife-spotting; we're told that the island is inhabited by carnivorous pitcher plants. Bird watchers will be happy to hear that more than 150 species call Koh Ta Kiev home.
Koh Takeiv's beach is so breathtaking upon landing that, like a sea siren, it
entices visitors to stay longer.. A short walk down the right side of the shore carries visitors to a small wooden bridge perfectly suited for fishing or diving. Thousands of fish are a flurry
of activity beneath the calm sea here. A similar underwater landscape may be seen on the other end of the beach, where diving is especially good
Koh Ta Kiev has no electricity.
Koh Ta Kiev is already being developed by a Malaysian company. It has the rights to build on the island an eco-tourism resort with beaches, a golf course, marina and theme park.
The island is also home to Jonty’s Jungle Camp camp, offering the ultimate eco-friendly, “back to nature” experience staying in quality tree-house accommodation, you can trek deep into the jungle, acclimatise in the sauna/steam room or simply just laze in your hammock.
Getting there: Several tour operators based in Sihanoukville offer overnight trips. Try the friendly Dive Shop which has a stunning new live-aboard boat or the long established Dive Cambodia (Full day trip with two dives costs about US$85 (GBP41 or Euro58).
Phone service is accessible on the island through Metfone and Smart, but WiFi is blessedly not available, meaning you can really relax away from the outside world.
